About Vaso's Mediterranean Bistro

Vaso's Mediterranean Bistro has served Old Town Alexandria for over 12 years from our King Street dining room, steps from the waterfront. We're a family-owned kitchen cooking Greek and Italian classics from scratch: char-grilled lamb shank, whole sea bass, stuffed flounder, veal Sorrentina, house-made gyros, and hand-rolled baklava and galaktoboureko. Our seafood arrives fresh, our olive oil and feta are imported, and our wine list leans Greek and Italian. We serve lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, with patio dining in season, a full bar, and private event space. Walk-ins are welcome; reservations are recommended for weekend evenings. Whether it's a gyro at the bar or a four-course dinner, we cook the way our family eats.

Before you go

  • Ask about allergens when you order: US food law names nine major allergens (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy and sesame), and kitchens can tell you which dishes contain them.
  • Restaurant inspection results are kept by the city or county health department; many publish them online or post the latest grade at the door.
  • For table service a tip of 15–20% is customary; at counter-service places tipping is optional.

My new favorite on King St. Excellent cocktail and a refreshing gyro salad. The fresh bread was amazing. Servers are some of the best in the area.

We had an amazing brunch experience at Vaso’s Mediterranean Bistro! Our group of six ordered from the brunch menu, and everything was excellent from start to finish. A special shoutout to our hostess/waitress, Venera, who provided outstanding service and made us feel welcomed right away. She was fantastic! Our water and coffee cups never dropped below 3/4 full. Honestly, I’m not sure if she was walking by or using some kind of advanced hydration radar we couldn’t see, but we were impressed! A couple of us had the Traditional Greek Breakfast (don't judge, but I added a side of bacon), and everything was absolutely delicious. The rest of our group ordered either the pancakes, the breakfast gyro, or the Sunrise Breakfast, and not a single person was disappointed. We also had the watermelon salad as an appetizer, which was fresh, flavorful, and a great addition to the meal. We also learned that Vaso’s won First Place this year for their White Chocolate Cherry Bread Pudding in the Cherry Challenge dessert category. We were way too full to try it this time, but it is absolutely on the list for our next visit! It was so good that our friend’s son almost swallowed the grounds in his espres

This is my second time coming here and I love it- the food, the service, the music... All come together for an enjoyable experience. If you ever find yourself on King Steet looking for somewhere to eat, make sure to give this spot a try.

We recently had dinner at Vaso’s. Overall, the experience was average. The food was okayβ€”nothing particularly impressive, but not bad either. It was the kind of meal that leaves you neutral rather than excited or disappointed. The highlight of the evening was the watermelon salad, which was fresh, tasty, and easily the best dish we tried. Unfortunately, even that felt very overpriced for the portion size. In general, the biggest downside was the quantity of food served. The portions were surprisingly small, especially considering the prices, which made the overall value feel poor. While the meal was decent enough, the combination of average food, small portions, and high prices made it hard to justify. It wasn’t a bad experience, but it also wasn’t one that stood out or felt worth repeating soon.

This cozy, family-owned bistro in Old Town Alexandria specializes in authentic Greek & Mediterranean dishes with Italian influences. I visited on a slow Sunday evening, and the staff was very polite and prompt in bringing drinks and taking the orders. Each table is provided water, bread, and olive oil for dipping. The entree I chose is a Baked Moussaka, and my friend the Chicken Souvlaki Platter. Both meals were prepared and served in a timely manner. The food was fresh with quality ingredients. The Moussaka had a mixture of potato with the sirloin which made an interesting spin on a traditional lasagna dish. The chicken on the platter was juicy and tender. The meal was in the mid-twenties in price which seems typical for this type of restaurant. The portions being a little smaller than I'd like for the price, but not disappointing. I believe this is an ideal place for a lunch or dinner date, especially if you are looking for authentic Greek cuisine.
